OISC & THINK Together Volunteer Information • The OISC is seeking volunteer optics professionals to “Adopt-a-Center” and act as on site resources to the Center Directors and volunteers during the programs described below. In-Service Training at THINK Together on Friday November 21 from 9 - 11 am. Click here for the on-line application form THINK Together assists educationally at-risk youth in low-income areas by providing homework assistance and academic support in order for them to succeed and stay in school. Volunteers are the key to the success of our students. THINK Together volunteers participate in a variety of ways in our centers. The OISC is partnering with THINK Together to provide science based programs as part of the after school learning enrichment process. • THINK Together operates 11 learning centers in central Orange County – 7 for the elementary students and 4 for teenagers. • OISC will provide two programs delivered twice during the 2003 – 2004 academic year, once the 2nd two weeks in December and again in April. – one for elementary grades 1-5, based on “Color My World: A Color Unit for Elementary School Students" – one for teenage students grades 6 -12 based on "Color My World", with a special (one afternoon) presentation of the "Optics Suitcase" • Each program will run about 40 minutes each day, 3 days / week, for 2 weeks. • All the Center Directors will attend a program training class in mid November conducted by the OISC and its volunteer optics professionals. • The Center Directors will then train their volunteers in late November. THINK Together provides volunteer orientations/trainings and subject workshops to support volunteers and staff in their efforts.
