EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS
[New!]
The OISC  has established a collaborative partnership  with  THINK Together, (Teaching, Helping, Inspiring, Nurturing Kids) in Central Orange County to provide science education (using optics  & astronomy ) in after school programs.   More information about this program and volunteer opportunities are available on-line at  OISC & THINK.
 [New!]
A new relationship is in the making with a group called IC Stars Astronomy, Inc. from Kansas City, MO.  Although they are quite away from Southern California, their story is quite interesting and we believe we will do wonderful work together for our friends in Latin America.  The key to this relationship is their subsidiary Southern Skies Star Parties (SSSP) and their non-profit group The Star Garden Foundation.  The SSSP takes place in the mountians of Bolivia, South America, where the OISC founder's wife, Ana Maria Silberman, hails.  A sample of the current OISC effort to help the SSSP can be seen at OISC & SSSP where information was taken to the SPIE Conference OISC Table Top Exhibit (see story under Recent Conference Results!)
 [New!]
OISC Director Donn Silberman has accepted an invitation to assist the Discovery Science Center's Exhibit Committee.  As the DSC includes more exhibits that contain optics, astronomy and related sciences, they saw the need to have a professional optics engineer / educator join the committee.  Check out the exhibits and programs at the DSC today!!  You'll be glad you did!!

RECENT  CONFERENCE RESULTS

San Diego, CA

The  OISC coordinated a Table Top Exhibit with Irvine Valley College’s Laser Electro-optics Program , Center For Applied Competitive Technologies  IEEE Laser Electro-Optics Society Los Angeles Chapter, Optical Society of Southern California, and Optical Society of San Diego

Click here to see the Table Top Banner!!   The exhibit was a success as many attendees stopped by to pick up literature, sign up for memberships and IVC classes and volunteer for educational outreach programs.

The Irvine Valley College’s Laser Electro-optics Program in co-operation with The Optics Institute of Southern California  was awarded an SPIE Educational Grant   at the SPIE Student Scholarship and Grant Winners Reception.

[New!] The OISC donated  a door prize at the SPIE meeting  and the winner was Richard Pierce of Research Optics in Riverside, CA.

The Academic Press Dictionary of Science and Technology is the most comprehensive, authoritative dictionary of science available. Covering 124 fields of science, the Dictionary will make a handsome addition to your reference collection.
