Planned (future) program:
Develop a K-12 Optics Outreach Program addressing three (3) of the five (5) topic areas detailed in “Optics Education – A Blueprint for the 21st Century” project. (Sponsored jointly by the Optical Society of America and SPIE-The International Society of Optical Engineering December 2001.)
The three (3) topic areas are:
Create materials to be used with two different size groups, 1-4 classrooms (~30 to 120 students) and school assemblies (up to ~500 students). The first set of material will be focused on the middle school grades 6-8.
The plan will have material for a 45 minute presentation by an optics professional that integrates demonstrations and hands-on experimentation for the students. Written hand-outs for both teachers and students will be developed for continued learning in subsequent days after the presentation.
A web site will also be created that contains information about this program and how various stakeholders may get involved.
