EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH PROGRAMS
 
The OISC began discussions with  THINK Together, (Teaching, Helping, Inspiring, Nurturing Kids) in Central Orange County to provide science education (using optics) in after school programs.
 
Donn Silberman, OISC Director, teaches Astronomy & Space Sciences classes at University of California Irvine’s Gifted Student Academy.    See our Projects in Progress pages for more details.

The Optics Institute of Southern California receives an "Optics Suitcase" from the University of Rochester's Institute of Optics.  This has been already been used at the UCI GSA Astronomy course and will be further developed for use with the THINK Together programs.

The OISC is coordinating a table top exhibit at the SPIE Annual Meeting, booth #408, next to the OSA booth.  Co-sponsors include: Irvine Valley College’s Laser Electro-optics Program , Center For Applied Competitive Technologies  IEEE Laser Electro-Optics Society Los Angeles Chapter, Optical Society of Southern California, and Optical Society of San Diego    Click here to see the Table Top Banner!!

The Irvine Valley College’s Laser Electro-optics Program in co-operation with The Optics Institute of Southern California has been awarded an SPIE Educational Grant.  This award will be received at the SPIE Annual Meeting Tuesday August 5 3:30 - 4:30 pm Student & SPIE Scholarship and Grant Winners Reception.  Also at the SPIE Conference the OISC will conduct a Product Demonstration of the "Optics Suitcase" and associated Educational Outreach materials.  Tuesday August 5  12:30 pm in the Exhibition Hall.

OISC to donate a door prize at the SPIE meeting

The Academic Press Dictionary of Science and Technology is the most comprehensive, authoritative dictionary of science available. Covering 124 fields of science, the Dictionary will make a handsome addition to your reference collection.
